Fines and Charges in accommodation

2 min. readlast update: 08.09.2024

Full information on accommodation rules can be found in Section 3, appendix 4 in the Handbook of Student Regulations Details of charges can be found in Annexe 1 and fines in Annexe 2.

Stage 1: The informal Stage

There may be a Stage 1 meeting arranged, but at times we have seen students receive a letter with details of the fine or charge. It is likely a staff member would have already spoken to you about this, and often at the time of the incident which has led to the fine/charge. You could receive a warning or fine, or they could escalate your case to a Stage 2 hearing

Appealing the outcome of a Stage 1

Within 5 days of receiving the Stage 1 outcome, students are required to speak to the staff member who has issued the fine/charge. Where they should explain the reasons for the fine/charge.

Within 10 days of receiving the Stage 1 outcome, students should commence an appeal by sending an email to the staff member who sent your the fine/charge. Your appeal should include information on why you are disputing/appealing the fine.

In your appeal we would suggest you include information on why you are submitting the appeal and detail any mitigating circumstances in your life at the time.

If you have any pictures to dispute the allegation, please include these. For example you are being charged for a stain mattress in the accommodation, if you have evidence of a photo of the mattress with no stains, please include this as a part of your appeal.

There is a possibiity a Stage 2 hearing will be convened following your appeal.
