What is a HMO and checking your landlord has a licence

WHAT IS AN HMO

HMO stands for House of Multiply Occupation.  An HMO is a property which has 3 or more people from more than one household living there who share kitchen, bathroom, or toilet facilities. Mandatory HMO licensing applies to all HMO’s having 3 or more occupants. 

HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR HMO HAS A LICENCE

Newcastle City Council are currently moving between two systems, therefore have two public registers.  If you live in an HMO of 3 or more occupants your landlord must have a licence.  You can check if your landlord has a licence below;
